„G.S.Rakovski“ National Defence Academy has a substantial contribution for the preparation of specialists in the field of defense and security. „Our main aim is the quality of education“, said General Mayor Georgy Georgiev, Commandant of the Defense Academy in an interview for Akademika.Bg.
The Academy offers 14 Master’s degree courses. It had 575 students and listeners for the academic year 2009/2010. In particular 256 students have been enrolled in Defense Department and 319 students in National Security Department. Besides, the Academy has had 100 P.hD. students. The Commandant is convinced that the Academy will enroll about 700 students for the 2010/2011 academic year. An interesting fact is that students having obtained their Bachelor’s degree in other universities express their interest in Master courses in the Academy.
The National Defense Academy is proud of having 100% of officers and 70% of the civilian students to find their jobs in the defense and security sector, emphasized General Georgiev. The Academy has also a Career center. It is assessed as a useful link between students and their potential employers.
66% of Academy’s staff members have a NATO English certificate – STANAG 6001. A new tendency is the opportunity listeners from different programmes to attend courses together in English for the purposes of multinational operation and headquarters studies in the NATO centers – continued General Georgiev.
Furthermore, G.S. Rakovski National Defense Academy participates in an expert group of the Ministry of Defense for the elaboration of the new defense strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria. The education institution is also involved in the preparation of expert analysis for the strategic environment, the defense potential and the operation capabilities of the defense corps of the country.
The Academy has a wide scientific and research activity. General Georgiev informed Akademika.Bg that the Academy participates in annual defense conferences at EU level and is actively involved in the scientific EU network. It is a member of the Consortium of Defence Academies and Security Studies Institutes under NATO Partnership for Peace Programme (PfP).
